Lord, I am SO Thirsty!

“Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.” ~ 1 Corinthians 10:1-5

Father in Jesus name, I thank You so much that You can quench my inner thirst. Lord, I stand here in confidence that You want to do that, so I ask You to do that. Lord, speak to my heart through what I am about to read. Holy Spirit make this real in my life and may I notice what I need to see and notice. God I pray that You can allow me to have a heart of worship, praise and study of Your Word. Teach me Your ways, without them my life as a Christian will be fruitless. I thank You that Jesus Christ ordained me to bring forth fruit and for souls to be saved through me, so Lord, please produce this in my life in time and this season if it be Your will please. I love You and appreciate You in Jesus Name! AMEN!

The Book/Epistle of Corinthians was written by the Apostle Paul. Corinth was a literal place, not just an Epistle in the Holy Bible.  Corinth was a city in Greece, not just a city, but a powerful city; some might call it a metropolitan city.  Corinth was also filled with idolatry, false doctrine, self-will, pride and in the middle of spiritual darkness, God had a Church.  God through the hands of Paul the Apostle founded the Church; “Unto the church of God which is at Corinth.” (1 Corinthians 1:2)

Interestingly enough in this passage, Paul’s desire was that we as Christians wouldn’t be ignorant.  The most interesting part is when Paul spoke of how he didn’t want us to fall victim to ignorance, it’s in areas where we often do.  Paul address’ this part of the Epistle back to the days of old.  The times where the Israelites were in the wilderness and where they were tempted, tried and tested.  Each of these events in the wilderness was actually a “typology” or a shadow of Jesus Christ, in other words, even though they were literal events, symbolically, they are/were to direct us to the Lord Jesus Christ.  Jesus Christ is seen all throughout the Bible. It’s written that He is The Word of God (John 1:1 & Revelation 19:13). Jesus Christ is seen from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21.  

The Israelites were led by Moses, the man God had appointed to be over them, to lead them and to guide them, just as God has done with Pastors in these modern times. Moses and the Israelites were not the best team, but like God said to Paul “My grace is sufficient.”  The Israelites journeyed beyond the Red Sea and escaped from the bondage of Egypt then being led into the wilderness. Just as we often do, they began to murmur and complain about how good “it was back then.”  Often times we can find ourselves day-dreaming about how it “used to be.” I used to be with him or her.  I used to love to go there at night. I used to be in love with her. I used to have the best pick up lines.  I used to love to speak with her.  I used to love to do ‘this and that.’ Just as it was a trick of the enemy for them, it is for us.  God placed them strategically in the wilderness to bring out the unbelief in them and to call them to a higher place in God, but they wanted to stay dormant and in the past instead of productive and in the present/future.  

The scriptures above actually talk about how Moses and the Israelites drank of a spiritual drink.  In the story of the wilderness, the Israelites were continually arguing, bickering and complaining to Moses and they found themselves in a drought. (Exodus 16:6-7 & Numbers 17:5-10) They asked Moses to help them and Moses went to God, God told Moses to strike a rock and the rock would gush out water for them to drink.(Exodus 17:6)  What a powerful God we serve, but again, this is symbolic to look at Christ, don’t miss that.  God later told Moses to speak to the rock and he hit the rock again, which resulted in disobedience and stopped him from entering into the Promised Land. (Numbers 20:8-12) The rock is symbolic of Jesus Christ; He only had to be smitten or “hit” once and that was at Calvary’s Cross. (Isaiah 53:4)  Jesus had the water inside of Him, just like the rock in the ancient days with the Children of Israel.  The typology was just that, the rock was Jesus Christ; the water was the Spirit of God.  Jesus spoke with a woman at a well one time and said He had life giving water. (John 4:10)  Then He began teaching and spoke about how we (Christians) were going to have living waters inside of us. (John 7:38) The same is true today, to those who have accepted Christ, we have received the gift of the Holy Spirit, the life giving water. (Luke 11:13)   Jesus Christ died once for our redemption, redemption meaning we couldn’t fix our situation, buy ourselves back or bargain with God, but Jesus Christ in His love willingly went to Calvary’s Cross and died for you. (1 Timothy 1:15)

The Israelites were falling victim to dehydration. Dehydration means that your body does not have as much water and fluids as it should.  Dehydration can be caused in various ways.  Dehydration had side effects, it can if untreated, cause death.  Some of those side effects are dry mouth, not producing tears, sunken eyes and lethargy.  If you body doesn’t receive adequate fluids, you can die.  This is the same spiritually, we may have went days, months or even years without taking a drink of water, spiritually.  The side effects might not be the same as the ones from the natural body, but spiritually and naturally, one can tell there is a difference.  A lack of spiritual water can be seen in cussing, arguing, lying, cheating, hate, bitterness, un-forgiveness, anger, pornography, homosexuality, masturbation, adultery, lust, jealousy, sex before marriage, secular music, depression, a lack of joy, a lack of peace, a lack of love, a heart of guilt and shame, the list goes on.  These are the side effects we face daily if we don’t receive our daily supply of spiritual water from the Rock; Jesus Christ, The Word of God.  

My question today/tonight is will you spend time with God alone?  What has the “dehydration spiritually” caused today in your life?  Has there been any great benefit to you by leaving behind the Lord Jesus Christ?  

Father God, I thank You for the continual flowing waters of the Holy Spirit. God I ask You to bless the people who are reading this and thinking about it. Father, I pray that it is pleasing in Your sight. Lord, help us to meditate and think on You, give us fresh revelations on who You are.  Holy Spirit show us the deep things of this text and how it represents the Lord Jesus. Father, help us to spend more time with You.  Help us to devote time to You, make a schedule for You and help us to stick with it.  Father, give us a spiritual drink right now, let our lives be evidence that You are real and that You were smitten once and for all and You have given us the Holy Spirit.  Holy Spirit I pray that You fill me and the reader right now.  Holy Spirit produce the fruit in their lives that’s needed to draw them closer to You and to draw others closer to You as well.  Father, bless our families, marriages, schools, Church’s, Nations and towns IN JESUS CHRISTS AWESOME, AMAZING AND POWERFUL NAME!!! AMEN!!!!!
