What You Pick Up in the Valley

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” ~ Psalm 23:4 (KJV)

Father in Jesus Name, I pray that You use this moment to instill wisdom, knowledge and understanding deep within me to the point where it changes my life and the lives of those around me in a godly way. I thank You for that in Jesus Name! AMEN!

Life is filled with valleys and mountain-top experiences and while we covet and desire the mountaintops the truth is, they valleys last longer and are more frequent.  What do we do with these valley experiences, when life seems to have stepped on our toes and left us incapable of walking and moving forward?  It’s not always “why” it happened that is so important as to “how” to respond to what happened.  In our mind as Christians we try to rationalize why we are here, so we feel as though we are “still in control.” We think about our life and inwardly think “this sin” is why I am here or “it’s because I didn’t forgive when God convicted me and showed me unforgiveness the first time” or maybe it’s because “I didn’t do “that” when I had the chance.” Sometimes the valley isn’t even the problem; it’s our mind wandering when we are in it.  The truth is, God leads us into the valley.  God works in the valley. God uses the valley and He is the God of the Valley.

David went into this loved Psalm talking about how God was leading him through his life, but then he takes a twist and says “yea thou I walk through the valley.”  Interested in life, we think if God is leading, why the valley?  Is there something we can learn about the valley?  The truth of the matter is, yes, there are many things we learn in the valley that we don’t learn out of it.  Some sides of God will never be revealed until we end up in the valleys of life.  As a matter of fact our relationship with God can’t grow as we desire until we realize He is the God of the valley.  David knew about valleys, he faced a giant named Goliath in a valley.  The Bible says as David was walking down to fight Goliath “he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had” (1 Samuel 17:40) David found five things in the valley and one was used to kill a giant.
The Goliath of our life IS life, but while we are in this valley with this giant, what can I use, what can I pick up in the valley to fight this giant? Here are five things you pick up in the valley…!

1)      Spiritual Growth and Development – The valleys of life bring spiritual growth and development as a matter of fact most of our valleys probably are there to develop us.  God desires for us to change lives, He desires to do that, but He needs us to cooperate with His desires.  In the valley sometimes we realize that God is more important than my will and desires and from there God changes us and develops us and we begin to grow others knowingly and unknowingly. Your valley brings spiritual development and growth. It’s invaluable, there’s no price you can put on spiritual growth, examine your growth and praise God for the growth in the valley.

2)     Faith in God’s Word and Promises – Sometimes without the trials of our life we would never truly reach out to God.  When we get in trouble, whether it being our fault or not we run to God.  When trouble persists, we CLING to God. There is a difference. When problems stay longer than desired they train us to depend on God.  The Bible says that we are to train up children in the way they should go and they won’t depart as they get older. (Proverbs 22:6)  It’s funny, sometimes we read that and think that it’s for parents only, but it’s also what God does with us.  Our valleys teach us to have more faith in God’s Word and Promises. Think of where you are and praise God for the newfound and strengthened faith in God’s Word and Promises.

3)     A Passion for Christ that is Willing and Able to Face ANY Odds – Without a valley in our life, usually we don’t recognize the passion we have for Christ.  Immediately when we become a Christian God reveals the passion that we have.  We often quote “As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God.” (Psalm 42:1-2a) In the valley we begin to realize “that is already there.” Everyone in the world has a passion for Christ that is a Christian; we just have flesh that dominates that passion.  In the valley we realize that we have a spiritual hunger that can’t be satisfied with fleshly and lustful desires.  It’s in the valley that we realize that “this doesn’t satisfy me” as we look at some of our actions. God prunes us and cleanses us in the valley. Thank God for the passion for Christ that is already in you as you are being cleansed in the valley.

4)     Freedom – When we come into a valley, sometimes we are terrified and fear is a stronghold that captivates a majority of us.  Sometimes the valley that we face is actually the thing we feared the most and through that valley experience God frees us from fear.  We sit and stare looking at our greatest fear as it becomes our reality and God begins to free us from that deep fear in our heart.  God begins to free us from fear.  While we say “David didn’t fear Goliath” we probably embellish a bit when we say that, we forget that all the people of the Bible were just that, human. The same thoughts we think went into David’s mind “what if…?” “Why don’t they help me…?” Inwardly, we have natural fears, but through going into the valley we realize we also have spiritual victory and spiritual realities.  God uses the valley to free us from that which keeps us bound.  Who knew David who went into a valley with a passion for God; a faith in His Word and Promises would develop spiritually and be freed from things that only David knew of.

There is also one more thing, the very thing that you will need to knock down the Goliath called “life.”

5)     A Genuine Love for God – No doubt that in order to fight, overcome and have victory over the giant of life, we have to have a genuine love for God.  Many of us quote “And all things work together for good” but we forget “to them that LOVE GOD.” (Romans 8:28) and Jesus Himself said we should love God more than anything. (Mark 12:30) Jesus said that was the greatest commandment, in other words “this is the most important thing in the world.”   God creates in us a deep love for Him in the valley.  It’s in the valley where we realize, “God, I am tempted to go back to sin, to go back to my ex, to go back to drugs and drinking, but I want to stay with you.” True love is revealed in tough times, it’s not revealed on the wedding day, it’s revealed when the wedding day is threatened and wondered “was it worth it.” It’s in the valley that our love for God grows that enables us to have victory over life, not that defeat, falls and failure won’t come, but the assurance that “all things work together for good” because I LOVE GOD.

Father in Jesus Name, Lord, I come to You thankful that You are my Savior and Lord. God, You haven’t failed me even when I feel like You have and wonder where You are. Lord, You are with me in the valley and You see where I am. Holy Spirit, fill me and use me for Your Kingdom and glory. Father, create a deep sense of peace in this valley I am in and let me surrender it to You. Father, create a love for You, develop me spiritually, grow my faith, free me from things I can’t see and show me how to follow the passion for Christ that is already in me in this season. Lord, I thank You for helping me overcome the flesh and self-life through this valley in Jesus Name I glorify You for this work You are doing that is so valuable that one day I will honestly say “thank You for that valley” in Jesus Name! AMEN!

Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior?

If not, here’s what you are missing.  You are missing satisfaction in life. You are missing the blessings of God in and through your life. You are missing the blessing of being able to know God intimately and know Him for the pardoning of your sins.  You are missing the blessing of being able to serve God and impact your community and the world around you.  You are missing the beauty of God revealing Himself to you and helping you in your daily life. You are missing out on such great things.  God wants the best for you and His best starts with you admitting you have sinned against Him and that you need a Savior for your sins, that Savior is Jesus Christ.  Like me, will you rebel against God’s plan and will for your life? Will you submit to Gods will so He can save you and redirect your life?  God can get you off any drugs, any habit or addiction, nothing can stop God and God will stop at nothing to stop it from stopping you from reaching your full potential for Christ.  God loves you so much, why wait and why reject His message.

If you want to be saved for-real, just pray this prayer:

“Lord Jesus, I have sinned, I am a sinner, I have sinned and will sin, but I have sinned only against You. Lord, I am in need of Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and You rose from the dead. I believe You are God and that You have the capability to forgive me of my sins and cleanse me from my unrighteousness. Lord, please save me and draw me to You by Your grace. Fill me with Your Spirit. Baptize me in Your power and help me to live a lifestyle that is pleasing in Your sight. Give me victory over temptation, Lord, strengthen me to be all who You want me to be please in Jesus Name! AMEN!”

"God loved the world this way: He gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life." ~ John 3:16 (God’s Word Translation)

"That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.  For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be [disappointed.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” ~ Romans 10:9-13 (NASB)

"Blessed" The Royal Prayer Line for 5-22-2013

Father in Jesus Name, I come to You and ask You to make this fruitful in my life. Lord, bless me so I can bless others with a heart of love and compassion please in Jesus Name I pray. Amen!

The Bible says in Ephesians 1:3 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ”

What do you think of when you hear the word “blessing” or “blessed,” the truth is, most of us think of things and not something we are becoming, but Gods Word tells us differently. Being blessed isn’t what’s on a pay stub, it’s not what you drive or how big your house is, being blessed is a spiritual transformation that takes place by the work of God in your heart.

All over the world we see people walking around without God with the things we covet and desire to have, the big house, the nice cars, the four car garage, yet they are still without God.  Inwardly and naturally, we think being blessed is something that has to do with natural and materialistic means.  This very mindset is what God seeks to get rid of in our life because it’s a hindrance to the true work of God in our hearts.
Most people would agree that fulfilling Gods plan and purpose in their lives is the key to success and they would definitely be considered “blessed.” However, we rarely understand that Gods whole purpose and work in our life is to make us more like Jesus Christ.  God wants you to think like Jesus, to look for people who are hurting, to forgive like Jesus and to see people who feel lonely and bring them in making them feel valued, appreciated and accepted.  God wants you to make people feel better about themselves; after-all that’s what God has done with you.

God expects in return what He gives to us. God gives us money to give not to hoard. God gives us gifts to use not to glorify ourselves and try to outshine someone else.  God gives us capability and knowledge to serve and love other people. Gods version of being blessed is simply being more like Him, not grabbing onto things of the world and accumulating things that can be lost in a matter of seconds and we all know they can. Your greatest worldly desire and we all have one can be gone in seconds, in the blink of an eye it’s gone and then we are left with us and “us” is what we least think of when we hear “blessed.”

Since we know being blessed isn’t a materialistic good, but a spiritual transformation and change, what can we expect from God now that we are indeed being blessed by coming closer to Jesus Christ and growing in our relationship with Him?

In the lives of the Apostles, none of them had cars or big fancy yachts or houses, but we could consider them blessed.  The Apostles went through the most severe of situations and circumstances and even faced death for the cause of Jesus Christ, yet they were blessed. So here are three things that will validate how “blessed” we really are:

1)      How much we value Gods inner work in our lives: If we really desire to be blessed and be a blessing we are going to value Gods work in us, changing us and shaping our lives to be more like Jesus Christ. That’s how God makes us useful to this world in order to change this world. God wants us to allow Him to help us love the things He loves and get away from the life that is self-centered and un-valuable to the world and His Church.

2)      God revealing himself to us in small ways: God will prove Himself to us daily, easily soothing our doubts and fears as we walk with Him. If you ask, He will show you Himself every day in some small way and as you read the Bible you’ll see Him in greater ways. When God does this, that’s what makes us want to know Him better. I can’t imagine being a Christian and lacking this in my life.

3)      God working out all things for our good: God promises in Romans 8:28 to work out everything for our good as we begin to love Him and care for Him. Our life is like a puzzle that is not put together, its fresh out of the box and when we get saved, Christ begins to put the pieces together.  Throughout our lives it looks like He isn’t doing too well. If we surrender to Gods will and ways now by the end of our lives that puzzle is put together. That was Gods will for our life. Yet, the puzzle of our life fits into Gods master plan which is another unfinished puzzle. That puzzle will be completed when Jesus returns for His Church.

With these three evidences to God blessing you, I ask you the question, are you blessed? And if you feel as though you are lacking in one, simply ask God to reveal Himself, to work in your life and to work all things out for good so you can be used to change the world around you for Gods glory.

Father in Jesus Name, I come to You and ask for You to work in my heart and life in the way that You desire. Lord, I thank You for this simple prayer being answered in my life. Lord, reveal Yourself to me daily and grow my love for the Word of God by Your Spirits power please in Jesus Name! AMEN!

Prayers of the Bible: The God Who Hears

A Prayer for Those Who Are Waiting on The LORD

Sunday, May 12, 2013

Dedicated to MY Mother, Yet Significant for ALL Mothers

“Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well.  But his father and his mother knew not that it was of the LORD, that he sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel.” ~ Judges 14:3-4

Father in Jesus Name, please encourage, strengthen, help, heal and draw divine wisdom out of this and I give this moment of my life to You. Speak to me please Lord in Jesus Name! AMEN!

When it comes to our parents, as younger people we tend to neglect their advice.  Samson was someone who was called by God to do great things and I mean great.  However, Samson had a little issue with dealing with girls who didn’t know the One true God, Jesus the Christ.  Samson goes to his father and mother after noticing a girl of the Philistines (the enemies of God and His people) and says “this is the one pops, mama she’s just so perfect!” Samson’s eyes probably lit up in thinking “what a great choice, see I’m pretty smart for a younger guy” yet Samson was picking something that was actually sent to pick him.  God anointed Samson’s mother and father to speak directly to his situation, correcting him and hoping for the best.  It’s very significant that God included the word “mother” in this part; it shows the display of godly love and wise counsel coming together for a greater purpose, beyond self.  God wanted the mother to receive credit for her godliness and choices. God uses mothers and He was giving honor to them through His Word. Samson however, didn’t listen and hit his head against the pavement searching for a quarter in a land of nickels and dimes.

What is a mother?  Few people can define it; even mothers can’t define it because their work isn’t done.  After-all that is the life of a mother, a job that never really ends. God has given everyone a mother; it was just in His plan to do it that way.  I could have been born from a giraffe, but God said “Adam, be born from Brenda” and through that His purpose is being fulfilled.  Growing up I was taught about Christ, but me being the arrogant kid (just like Samson) thought “pffft, what does mom know and who cares about God.” Perhaps, your child is doing the same thing, you are trying to train them and lead them to Christ, but they just aren’t hearing it.  My mom was persistent and never gave up hope in me, when I gave up hope in myself.  God uses mothers. God used my mother to instill values within me that have lasted my whole 25 years.  God uses mothers.  My mother gave me sound advice, sort of like Samson “Adam, can’t you get another girl?” The truth is, like Samson I was no angel.  My Church family see’s the renewed after Gods likeness Adam, the person who wants to be like Jesus Christ, yet that wasn’t always me.  I know many mothers look at their children, even those seeing and reading this and their child is in jail or has cancer or has HIV and you think “is it over for my child?” After all, they are on drugs God, can this change?  YES! God is ABLE!

I am living proof of the power of a praying mother. I was supposed to be dead, obviously to me by what I have done. I should be absolutely insane, yet God used a praying mother to help me, guide me and steer me into His path and direction.  God uses mothers.  God doesn’t want us to give up hope on our children, at all.  God can turn it around, I am proof of that.  How do we treat our mothers as children?  The truth of the matter is, we often neglect our parents.  Jesus Christ was on a Cross, on THE Cross, suffering for us and yet He looked down and saw John standing by His mother Mary and called John to be a caregiver to Mary, the mother of Jesus.  But wait, we don’t always do that as children, when we suffer sometimes the last person we go to is “Mom” but maybe mom has the answer? Samson was going to find out, “mom is anointed by God and was used by God to warn me” and obviously he learned that lesson the hard way, yet the Bible says that it was in God’s plan.  You see, God saw your child on drugs before you did, God saw your wayward daughter pregnant with a drug dealers baby before you did and prayer can change all of that (for both of them).  Samson’s life was already headed towards the wrong direction, but it’s very obvious through this text for the parents to be so keen and discerning as to whom Samson desired they were praying parents.  God uses praying mothers.  The Holy Spirit will take your child’s wrongs and right them. God the Holy Spirit will bring your child back from any sin they are in bondage to.  I wasn’t always an active member of a Church, my life was spiraling downward, I was like Samson, failing to understand the value of a godly mother’s advice, yet through prayer from a godly mother God my Father , God turned it all around.  Don’t give up on your child, mother.  You may be neglected by a son, but think of it this way, when we are out of fellowship with God we don’t make wise choices, we end up like Samson, running after something that is blocking the will and plans of God.  Don’t be too upset about your child who doesn’t call or write you, remembering that God can turn it around.  I’ve made many mistakes, neglected my mother plenty of times and even now I can say “I don’t do the best for her” but through it all, God has led me to understand the value of a godly mother. And for this I say “thank You Mom, for being a godly mother, someone who instilled a foundation of Christ in me and to this day you see it paying off in your life.”

God can turn it around!

Father in Jesus Name, we come to You glorifying You because You are God and You can fix a situation. Lord, we come to You asking and begging that more mothers would take on a new title, “godly.” Lord, we come to You and ask that the character of Christ would be so evident in parent’s lives that children can’t help but adapt, even when words aren’t spoken let actions speak and develop that child’s life. Holy Spirit, I run to You in this prayer and ask You to fix broken families, marriages and bring children back who aren’t doing what they should be doing. Lord, let us not give up hope for the change, perhaps you are allowing this for some greater purpose like the life of Samson. God, You are working in this situation and Lord we acknowledge You and You promised if we do, You will direct our steps and thoughts. Lord, please give us godly wisdom to demonstrate to children and godliness deep within our hearts. I thank You in advance for the jail cell being opened and bringing out a new person, someone the parent will look at and say “who is this?” and they will inwardly know and see the power of a praying mother. Thank You Lord.
